We went to see show after really enjoying Bogan Shakespeare Pride and Prejudice, and it certainly kept up the standard! Love the modern Aus parody take on the classic play. Great energy, witty and hilarious, and nothing like a bit of incest thrown in for good measure! One of the best shows in this year's Fringe and can’t wait for the next one guys! :)

Review by Amy Kapernick | 26 January 2024

In case anyone had doubts after 9 years of performances, the Bogan Shakespeare team have done it again. A night to entertain and enthral, honestly they need to run their shows for the entire season so everyone gets a chance.

The curtain opens to the familiar scene of Cicerellos in Fremantle (although one could argue that any good Aussie fish and chips joint is interchangeable with another, just a different sign). Whether you’re overlooking the ocean or the harbour, there’s always trouble brewing inside though, as families discover that family-run businesses may not always turn out the way we may think.

With unrest (and a few storms) brewing amongst the family ranks, the team have once again taken the prose that most of us hated in high school, and turned it into a don’t-miss night out, transforming the story in a way that even the bard himself would be proud of.

Although expanding drastically in the last 9 years, the team behind Bogan Shakespeare stay true to their roots, focusing on quality of story and audience experience and reminding us that different flannie colours can represent different people. An exceptionally talented bunch that shows the best that Perth (and Fringe) has to offer, the only people I’ve seen manage to give an entire Shakespearean monologue word for word and seamlessly finish it with f*** you.

So come along to Bogan Shakespeare to learn why maybe running everything through the family trust isn’t the best idea when one of your children turns hungry with power or doesn’t love your parenting style (you reap what you sow). With a bonus musical number this year (that has better production quality than we’ve gotten from a certain airline), come and enjoy the show (but watch out for those darn seagulls).

Now gods, stand up for quality entertainment (and fisherman's baskets).
