For comedy enthusiasts, the Experimental Comedy Club is a perfect mid-week FRINGE WORLD Festival fix. Every Tuesday during the festival, a new collection of aspiring and seasoned comedians takes to the stage at The Red Room for research purposes: to determine whether they can make you laugh or not.

The sets are short, unpolished, and a fantastic way to discover a new comedic favourite. Not every joke hits the mark, but that's half the charm.

Our night was expertly hosted by Kelsey de Almeida, leading an impressive lineup of 12 comedians road-testing their stand-up material. Right from the get-go, the charisma and ease with which Kelsey handled the crowd showed that this isn’t your regular comedy lineup.

The timing of the show is perfect, as you get a little taste of each comedian's style and flair. It’s a rollercoaster of topics and punchlines, but the uncertainty makes it that little bit more exciting. Plus, with a short break in the middle of the show, you can relax your face from the ear-to-ear grin you’re sure to have.

Be prepared to laugh out loud. At one point, I looked at my friend to see tears streaming down their face. With so many different comics, you’re guaranteed to leave with another FRINGE WORLD Festival show lined up.

Given the experimental nature of the show, some jokes may toe the line, and skill levels vary. However, the overall quality matches the sheer quantity that you get.

It’s the perfect introduction for people new to the comedy scene, so bring your friends, relatives, partners, and even your mother-in-law. Buckle up and get ready to enjoy the show!
