Feels Good for Fringe World to start!

All the world’s a stage at FRINGE WORLD, with the Festival’s 2023 opening weekend featuring the return of international artists, alongside brilliant local performers. 

The 2023 Festival features more than 500 incredible shows, showcased at 100 diverse venues all over the Perth CBD and suburbs. The past two Festivals were impacted by border closures, but international and interstate artist participation is back and there’s a huge variety of entertainment to choose from. 

ARTRAGE CEO said that FRINGE WORLD is regarded as WA’s favourite festival, which she chalked up to the great value of tickets, and the good times that Fringe shows offer. 

“Everyone has a different definition of what’s their good time; from those that enjoy deep, thought-provoking theatre, to people who want to leave behind their troubles and be wowed and impressed with comedy, circus or cabaret. There’s a Fringe show for every interest, for everyone’s type of a good time.” Ms Burgess said.

The FRINGE Sunday Funday, supported by Lotterywest, will be a highlight of the opening weekend. It’s a big, free, community event taking over William Street, Northbridge from 1.00pm to 6.00pm. Visit to get a taster of what’s on offer in the Festival. 

The ARTRAGE Fringe Hubs will all be open and highlights include the lord of lyrical miracles Matt Storer: Hot Nonsense Reheated (WA - The Pleasure Garden), 80’s Mixtape Cabaret (WA – The Pleasure Garden), lawyer-turned comedian 100% - Michael Shafar (VIC – Liberty Fringe), Scottish comedy legend Gary Macalister: IRON BRO (UK – Liberty Fringe), misdirection and illusionist master Stuart Lightbody with The Man with the Golden Hands (South Africa – Perth Cultural Centre), killer circus comedy The Detectives in Cirque Noir (VIC – The Perth Cultural Centre) and the kids show that’s a high-energy physical comedy, Strictly Barking (International – The Pleasure Garden. 

Also in the Perth city are Australia’s Got Talent rejects Samantha and Jennifer with their comedy/cabaret FASHION 4 PASHION (QLD – The Jonesway Theatre), children’s event Audioplay: The Turners (WA – WA Museum Boorla Bardip) where players physically act out the story together, a new comedy about survival and truck stop hotdogs VEHICLE (WA – State Theatre Centre) and dance sensation The Underground: El Escándalo (WA – THE RECHABITE). 

In the ‘burbs you can check out the comedic one-woman-show GATECRASHER (WA – Hayman Theatre), cry, laugh, and cringe as Phoebe sings her way through her sexual discover in Cumming of Age (WA – Ronnie Nights), a comedian’s take on the artistic process in 300 Paintings (NSW – Theatre at DADAA), Chameleon portrays a new point of view of mental illness (QLD – Theatre at DADAA), and High Expectations (WA – The Backlot Perth) is a surreal dance film set inside a literal giant brain.
