Yummy Unleashed is a sequinned, sassy celebration of gender fluidity.
While Fringe might be full of ‘variety’ show formats with different segments of comedy or circus, Yummy Unleashed is the ultimate compilation. Yummy includes drag, cabaret, dance, circus and (literally) world class burlesque in a seamless sixty minute set.
Yummy is at its best in the powerful, energetic group numbers which combines the best of each performer’s forte. With glitter galore and femme fierce the group inspires awe and wonder with every wink and wiggle.
Valerie Hex is a drag queen with a social conscious – the drag angel you want sitting on your shoulder encouraging you to strut your stuff, save the planet and ‘slay b*tch’. She was fabulous, natural and ochre (at times) as the perfect host.
The undeniable, unparalleled best part of Yummy is its theatrical spectacular. Every routine has been carefully curated to consider the costume, prop and track so that nothing is just as it appears on the surface. Think it’s just an amazing dance routine? Blink and it’s a neon light show. Circus trick? It’ll be turned on it’s head.
The music and dance numbers are upbeat, energetic and full of bass. The routines and remixes make you want to get up and dance – and then do 1000 squats so your behind can look one bit as good as their perfectly toned tooshes.
Some new tricks didn’t stick unfortunately. Floor based routines were difficult to see in a crowded spigeltent, and fire didn’t spark. The best bits were the ‘remixed’ segments from the 2019 Yummy instalment.
