Bruce Fummey, the finest afro-celtic comedian behind the 200k subscriber YouTube channel Scotland History Tours, is back in Perth for his show in progress Scotland Made the World. Fummey took us on a potted history of how Scotland impacted the world as we know it. Given my only knowledge of Scottish history comes from Outlander and shortbread tins, I learned a lot and I laughed even more.

I had not done my homework; I didn’t know there would be ‘required readings’ before the show but even so, I managed to follow along. If you are reading this thinking ‘I thought it was supposed to be a comedy show,’ I don’t think you will be alone. Fummey has a unique way of making history relatable and relevant to current-day observations, taking everyone along for the laugh.

I thought the early hour (6.15 pm on a workday) of the show may have been off-putting for the audience, but I was wrong. I’d hazard a guess that a fair percentage of WA's Scottish population were in the sold-out audience last night. Half the people seemed to know each other despite not coming together. I heard one audience member say after the show, ‘It wouldn’t have mattered if he hadn’t been funny, it was so good just to be surrounded by the accent for an hour, but he really was funny!’

This show delivers everything you want—great storytelling, compelling characters, and moments that stick with you. Whether you’re in it for the drama, the action, or the laughs, it’s a ride worth taking.
