There were lots of good things about Daniel Connell's show - the excellent venue of Johnnie Fox's for comedy, the air con that could keep up with Perth's temps, a cop in the front row making a perfect target for his comedic arrows, and just about the best comedy I have experienced at Fringe or elsewhere.
Daniel Connell is a real pro, making one hour zoom by and keeping you wanting more. I would definitely see this show again, because there was so much great content, and he is a real smooth operator weaving many funny tidbits into a hilarious overall story before you know it.
Unlike most performers from over East, he didn't poke too much fun at Perth except complaining about the heat and his resulting third-degree burns. He opened with Happy Valentine's Day to those who were out on a date and just Happy Wednesday to those who weren't, and immediately zeroed in on the prime opportunity sitting right in front of him, a police officer and his wife out on a date.
Topics ranged from how he spent the day in Perth browsing bookstores, how to spice up one's sex life (think Don Bradman), his house getting broken into and the valuables stolen, the unusual anatomy of some creatures in nature, the stages of drunk oblivion (from homo sapien to amphibious lizard), and having Batman over to a kids birthday party. You had to be there.
Make your way to see Daniel Connell each night this week at Lynott's Lounge @ Johnny Fox's. You are in for a treat with this show that is seamless and constantly funny.
