International award-winning trumpeter and vocalist Adam Hall and his Hot 6 had the audience on their feet with this two-set extravaganza! Expertly weaving through a brilliant selection of the ‘Music of New Orleans & Louis Armstrong’, Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys brought a world-class, fun, vibrant show to the State Theatre’s Courtyard and the energy was palpable.
It was the perfect hot summer night to lead a march down Bourbon Street, and although we were still just in Perth the audience was transported to New Orleans. Hall and his Hot 6 mesmerised with hits such as, 'When the Saints', ‘Gigolo’ and 'You are My Sunshine'. A sexy surprise addition to the set was George Michael’s ‘Careless Whisper’ putting a New Orleans twist on this timeless pop tune where Hall had the audience in the palm of his hand. The Velvet Playboys truly held their own, with special mention to Mark Tuner on soprano sax, offering exciting solos on the cutest brass instrument. On the other end of the instrumental scale, Anthony Dodos’ sousaphone was not only musically impressive but he mastered the task of marching through a jam-packed crowd with such a stunningly oversized bell.
Hall’s trumpet expertise, vocals and music direction are second to none. He expertly commands the stage leading his musicians while engaging the crowd with cheeky one-liners between tunes and getting the audience on their feet hosting the ultimate New Orleans dance party!
