Get ready for some singalong fun with the ultimate tribute to one of Australia's most iconic folk groups. This charming show at The Ellington brings to life the soaring four-part harmonies of Avenue, and the enduring songbook of The Seekers, in a wonderfully entertaining performance.
The show is more than just a string of favourite tunes. The band shares the fascinating narrative of how The Seekers skyrocketed to international fame, cleverly intertwining a couple of songs from other hitmakers who were instrumental in The Seekers rise.
My companion, a long-time Seekers fan, was flooded with nostalgia during the performance. Joyce Mathers and Avenue had her revisiting treasured memories in such a delightful way. Her visible joy reflected that of much of the crowd - this music spans generations.
A highlight was the entire room joining voices for a heartwarming rendition of one of Australia’s most well-known songs. The uplifting singalong created a feeling of community and had people beaming with pride.
The musicianship is top-notch, but it's the playful banter between songs that gives this show its infectious joy.
The Ellington has made it easy to enjoy the show in comfort, with table service available throughout via QR code orders. The drinks menu includes a generous variety of low and no-alcohol choices to complement the show. For those with seated tickets, arrive early since there aren't pre-allocated seats - the venue was already 2/3 full 20 minutes before showtime when I attended.
After the show, the band was happy to mingle with the audience to chat more about their music and the performance.
For both diehard fans and new listeners, Avenue: A Tribute to The Seekers is a toe-tapping good time. The Seekers’ music has truly stood the test of time, and this thoughtful tribute show offers the perfect mix of nostalgia and entertainment.
