Dream On combines projector screen puppetry, dance, acro, video, telepathy, and hilarious moments of audience participation. Pooling the talents of seven dedicated creatives, this unique amalgamation of artforms and abilities will entertain, uplift, and inspire audiences of all ages.
The concept of the show is cleverly executed and logically segmented into scenes in which performers bring a selection of day-dreams to life through an eclectic mix of methods. For example, the show opens with two on-stage screens depicting a typical morning in Perth city. Performers interact with one of the screens to create silhouettes on the other. Team work, deft fingers, and careful synchronisation combine to create a corporate montage for a groovy instrumental version of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’, after which a series of projected thought bubbles introduce a series of daydreams. These are then played out on stage by actors, expressed via a variety of performance styles.
In one particular circus-focused scene, precarious feats of body balancing impress the audience, and somehow don’t result in any visible injury. Marilyn Manson’s cover of ‘Sweet Dreams’ contrasts with multiple playful performance elements and drives home the intensity of the daring choreography, all whilst conjuring the juxtaposed nature of wanting that which you don’t already have.
A psychic strainer, breakdancing bear, a dramatic duo of belly-dancers, and a dance routine Queen Latifah would be proud of grace the stage before the cast returns en masse for a sweet and dreamy reprise.
If you’ve ever dreamed of joining the circus, inventing new technologies, or dancing on a stage, Dream On is the show for you.
