Dolly Parton: Backwards Barbie brings a modern, drag take to the classic country icon. Drag star Barbie Q brings returns to the FRINGE WORLD stage at Connections Nightclub with another Dolly Parton-inspired drag show, Backwards Barbie.

The amazing Barbie Q owned the stage as the beautiful Dolly Parton, along with some of her backup dancers and some of her drag peers to show off their amazing Dolly-esque outfits and all-powerful dance moves, performing a variety of Dolly Parton’s hits including ‘9 to 5’, ‘Jolene’ and ‘Islands In The Stream’. The show had acrobatics and choreography woven throughout the entire night.

Each performer felt really present, engaged and powerful when they were on stage. Barbie Q had an amazing stage presence, and all the dancers kept their contagious high-energy the whole night.

The show was split up into certain sections, being broken up by Barbie Q speaking and joking with the audience. Her love for Dolly Parton and her music was clearly evident, as she knew so much about the music icon. She discussed Dolly Parton’s recent resurgence with her upcoming rock album with acts such as The Rolling Stones and Stevie Nicks. Barbie Q also discusses her general love for Dolly, seeing her all over the country and referring to it as her ‘Dolly Stalking Tour’. Barbie Q amazingly brings Dolly’s stage presence and charisma to the stage for the whole night.

The costumes in this show were absolutely incredible. The whole show was filled with various homages to Dolly Parton’s outfits. From the more country-esque outfits, Barbie Q’s yellow and black rock suit to the closing number blue and silver sparkly catsuit, all the outfits lit up the whole night.

To end, Dolly Parton: Backwards Barbie was a starry and glittery performance, filled with amazing stage presence, dancers and choreography. I cannot wait to see what Barbie Q does next.
