Lashing of fun! J'adore Flickery! Bravo!

Flickery - a joyful gambol into the Art of female pleasure. With a thick French accent, the glorious ex-showgirl, Madame Lash, skilfully guides the more inhibited, 40+, poet, Miss Webster, on a fun-filled exploration of the multiple surprising ways, a woman can embrace pleasure in her life, and enjoy her own body - to the max. This is done through clever innuendo and encouraging self-arousal through music, dance, touch, classic books, foods, and other well-known aphrodisiacs. The highlight for me was revealing the top 100 sex toys. I learned something there. It was playful and educational leaving me keen to explore. The audience lapped it up and with each call for assistance, there was a flood of volunteers wanting to help. The soirée was decadent and fun; a joyful, inclusive, and safe space for all, and I commend the music choices.

Your personal tutor, Madame Lash is adorable, she is kind, sassy, and a powerful advocate for loving the body you are in, and body positivity, no matter what age you are. Flickery demonstrates a healthy attitude to women’s personal sexuality and normalises the last frontier: female masturbation. A hidden topic for too long. It’s a show about understanding female pleasure from holistic perspectives including basic anatomical awareness. Flickery celebrates feeling comfortable with self-pleasure and getting on first-name terms with your, or/and your partner(s), vulva, a much-misunderstood creature. The call to action is to spend just 20 minutes a day delighting in your own personal enjoyment.

At the surface level, it’s a comedy that will make you laugh. There was however a deeper message, and the big reveal at the end took me by surprise. I applaud the bravery and courage of Sally Newman, the show’s producer, for bringing this show to light. This show is about female empowerment.

Whether a ménage à moi, or with company, this show liberates and provokes interesting conversation and fresh possibilities long after its climax.

It’s in your hands ladies - take it!
