To see, or not to see? There’s only one answer to that question. Whether you be a lover of historical literacy or your average country bogan, you will enjoy the show. If you aren’t either then boy, are you bound to learn some brand new vocabulary. WA’s quaint costal town of Denmark gets a classy makeover in this retelling of Shakespeare’s classic. Forget everything you learnt in school; this is the only version of Hamlet you'll ever need.
I didn’t know what to expect but had high hopes coming into the show. It exceeded all of my expectations. I was captivated from the very start with their beautiful yet somewhat familiar opening number (even though it’s not a musical). The show just got better and better. From the local nuances and bogan charm, the pop culture references seamlessly woven together with Shakespearean soliloquies. This show is not only hilarious but also insanely clever.
One outstanding highlight of this show was the obvious chemistry between the cast that was then shared with the audience. The way they commandeered the entire theatre had everyone clapping and cheering along and created a great atmosphere.
The cast put on a brilliant performance portraying likeable characters that were simultaneously over the top stereotypes and yet very realistic and believable. I am looking forward to the future shows BS Productions brings.
So, to answer the question, should you go and see it? Nah yeah absolutely!
