The air of mystery shrouds the blue-lit stage as a dapper gentleman in a bowler hat fiddles his saw… oh the things you will see at Fringe will have you asking questions you never thought you would ask, such as “is that the technical term? A saw fiddler?”

It is truly a macabre melodrama as the victim of a most dastardly crime emerges, eerie rope work ensues, the audience is bewitched with the performance, enthralled with every moment and the scene has been set for a classic “who dunnit” tale.

Fear not folks, the victim will be avenged as our three protagonists and talented detectives enter the stage.

The theme of the humour is both juvenile as well as melodramatic and it absolutely works - the audience is with the performers, tittering every step of the way.

The detectives engage in expertly timed acrobatics, their facial expressions and saucy physical theatre ensured that the audience laughter kept coming. The costuming is perfect for the characters and seamless scene transitions also contributed to keeping the audience captivated.

The magic of a Spiegeltent cannot go unmentioned, coloured glass windows and mirrors only enhance the atmosphere of mystery. The props and set were ideal for the tale and the sound effects and music were polished and perfectly timed.

Now, this trio ensemble spent a lot of time juggling dancing, engaging in amorous acrobatics and mime, which must inevitably lead to the question, as talented as they are in circus skills and stage combat, “can the find the culprit?”

Enter Sarah Nayder, a damsel in distress with a talent for wordplay, the puppeteer playing Sarah was gifted in this art form and after he had created quite the frenzy our detectives (in various states of undress) got their trench coats on, and got down to business.

Hilarious speculation on how the crime happened ensued and our performers looked to illicit confessions from unsuspecting suspects in the sexiest, silliest way possible. Now, our law enforcement won’t have you compromising the clues or stripping at the crime scene… there are rules people! The policeman’s vocal range and inflections coupled with their expressions were hilarious.

The performance included karate, capoeira, cartwheels and of course the worm… as to whether the perpetrator got away with it? Well you’ll have to see the show and find out for yourself.
