Dazzling. A fun and joyful performance with moments of seriousness, Annita Wigl’it puts on an engrossing hour of music and laughs with “Funny Gurl”.
There were sparkles, tears, standing ovations and a finale that got the audience dancing in their seats.
If you’re looking for a show that balances silliness and thoughtfulness, and enjoy intimate performance environments, then this is perfect for you.
One likely to be enjoyed by those with an open mind and an affinity for queer culture, but potentially not for those more easily offended by fun sexy scandalous content.
Annita captivated in the scripted and more improvised parts of the show, skilfully catering her jokes to and engaging the audience who were circled closely around.
Even the Q&A at the end, which she self-deprecatingly joked was just a time filler, was hilarious and unexpected. While funny from start to end, a highlight was the encore in which Annita quite literally shone, managing to embody the show’s message of joy and finding the sparkle in life.
The drag, comedy and political aspects of the show worked together to create a fabulously cohesive hour of entertainment. Would highly recommend - possibly the most fun you can have in such a tiny tent.
