Emerging comedian, Emo, had the Friday night audience roaring with his hilarious and shocking stories in Black Santa Returns.

With a relaxed demeanour which put the audience at ease, strong banter and armed with a vast library of stories to draw on, Black Santa Returns is sure to entertain stand-up comedy fans.

If one hadn’t suspected before, the work is heavily dominated by race-based humour which is expertly pulled off and inclusive enough for any audience to enjoy. Political jokes are littered throughout the set, though personally, none made enough of a statement to add substantial layers to the work. While the work explores different cultures and lifestyles, it does so in a very light matter and it misses the opportunity to leave the audience thinking. But if this isn’t something you’re after and are looking for a fun stand-up show to head to with your mates, Black Santa Returns is sure to hit the spot.

Emo has great audience banter, often riffing with audience members about their own travels and experiences with the added hilarity of making up the answers he’s looking for when needed. His relaxed attitude allows the set to flow seamlessly giving the audience the feel of chatting with a mate.

It’s clear that Emo has strong potential, plenty of talent and is, no doubt, a rising star in the Perth comedy scene. With well-balanced content, a charming and approachable air and skilled delivery. Black Santa Returns is a stellar choice for a fun night of comedy with some mates and I, for one, will be excited to see what he does next.
