Best Friends: Jessie Gordon and Mark Turner is a show filled to the gills with romance, fun and lasting friendship and makes for the perfect addition to your FRINGE WORLD Festival calendar. Set in the gorgeous Ellington Jazz Club the talents of these two incredible musicians will have you wishing you had best friends as brilliant as them!
The format of the show is a game of ‘set list roulette’ where the crowd yells out random numbers, and our dynamic duo of Jessie and Mark performing the corresponding song from their extensive repertoire. This means that you (and they) have zero idea what pretty little ditty is coming next. This could make for some disjointed transitions, but it is absolutely flawless. These local legends prove they really are some of Perth’s best by bringing together a surprising mix of cool covers of well-known tracks and their own masterful creations.
Jessie and Mark have been performing together for 20 years, and their friendship is evidently as strong as ever. The ease with which they slip into each son, effortlessly harmonising, and their hilarious little quips between numbers the undeniable magic they create is second to none.
An accomplished jazz and blues singer Jessie Gordon is a stalwart of the Perth Jazz scene, and for good reason. Jessie’s voice is smooth and silky and drips like honey, whether singing a cheeky tune like Kitchen Man or belting out one of her own she is captivating, and you could listen to her forever.
Armed with his guitar and a smile that lights up the room, Mark Turner is a charming crooner with a velveteen voice. Just when you think you’ve heard what he can offer he pulls out the saxophone and the whole room fills with sultry melodies and golden notes.
The captivating chemistry between these two besties is something not to be missed!
